Vision of the Grant County Economic Development Council
Economic Prosperity & Quality Growth

Mission of the Grant County Economic Development Council
The mission of the Grant County Economic Development Council is to work for the continued, orderly growth of the Grant County economy while improving quality of life.

History of the Grant County Economic Development Council
Formed in 1991 by local governments and private sector businesses the Grant County Economic Development Council (GCEDC) is a non-profit organization focused entirely on solving the economic problems in Grant County. The GCEDC is engaged daily in activities to reduce the number of individuals living below poverty and the number of individuals unemployed. These activities can be summed into four major objectives:

  • Proactively support at least two major workforce education, training and recruitment initiatives for the economic prosperity and quality growth of Grant County businesses.
  • Support, retain, and expand food and agriculture related businesses.
  • Recruit, expand, support, and retain manufacturing, high-tech, areospace and service business projects.

  • Actively support major infrastructure projects necessary for the economic vitality of Grant County.

How the EDC Helps Grant County
Since 1999 GCEDC has assisted 11 major manufacturing and high-tech companies with relocations and expansions. These companies are creating over 1,500 jobs in our local communities with average wages of $44,000 per year.

The businesses and jobs that have come to Grant County with the assistance of the EDC have lowered the unemployment rate in the county from 10.1% in 2001 to 5.8% percent in 2007. During the same time period the county wide average wage has also risen from $23,431 in 2000 to over $33,000 .
