Project Summary

Yahoo! first contacted the Grant County EDC in late 2004 as it was beginning to search for a location for its first company owned and operated data center. After looking at sites across the USA, Yahoo! purchased 50 acres from the Port of Quincy and broke ground on August 2, 2006.

Just over a year later on December 3, 2007 Yahoo! held a ribbon cutting ceremony that signified that the 180,000 square foot data center was operational.

In 2010, after the passage of legislation that waived sales tax on server equipment in data centers, Yahoo! broke ground on its second phase. The new data center utilizes Yahoo's! now famous "chicken coop" design, and is more energy and water efficient than the first data center.

In 2017 Verizon Communications, acquired the Yahoo! data center space to add to their digital presence.
